Lightning reflection prompt at the conclusion of class, sixth grade

How It Works

  1. Lightning Reflection Share (3 Minutes). Three sentence starter stems appear on the board while the Random Name Picker selects five students to share. Rules are projected: one complete sentence per person, no debates.
  2. Formative Pulse Check (1 Minute). The second slide poses a quick understanding check using the Poll widget with three response options. Anonymous and completed in twenty seconds, this provides far more accurate data than asking “Does everyone understand?”
  3. Classroom Affirmation (1 Minute). The third slide displays Feedback Cards in full screen. One tap shares a motivating closing visual, ending the class on an encouraging note rather than frantic packing up.
  4. Pack-Up & Homework Routine (2 Minutes). The fourth slide lists the homework assignment alongside four classroom tidy-up expectations: clean desk surface, trash deposited, chairs tucked in, and materials stored.

Adaptations & Variations

In lower elementary grades, sentence starters and clean-up cues provide plenty of structure. Convert the formative poll into a physical gesture: thumbs up, sideways, or down. Every child understands the hand signal instantly without interacting with digital polls.

In middle school and high school classrooms, students write their reflection sentence in their notebooks as an exit ticket before packing up. Synthesizing the core concept in their own handwriting solidifies retention.

When concluding a testing session, use the fourth slide exclusively and swap out homework text for test collection protocols from our Test Day Routine template.

Preparation

  • None required. Sentence stems, polling options, and clean-up checklists are ready to display.
  • Enter your homework assignment into the text widget before class starts to avoid end-of-period rush.
  • Enter your student roster into the random name picker if you want randomized student selections.
  • Intentionally schedule the five minutes into your lesson plan rather than rushing the transition.
