Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 2, 2026 · Version 1.1
We protect student and teacher privacy by design. ClassHelper operates without advertising, without behavioral profiling trackers, and with all lesson data stored securely on German servers.
Overview
The foundation of our privacy architecture is straightforward:
- No account is required to launch or use the whiteboard.
- When using the free version, lesson boards and rosters stay entirely in your local browser storage.
- We load zero third-party advertising scripts or behavioral tracking cookies.
- All backend servers are hosted within certified data centers in Germany.
- We never sell, rent, or monetize educational data.
Data controller
The responsible data controller for processing personal data on this website is:

Visiting the website
When you access classhelper.app, our web servers temporarily record standard technical connection data (such as IP address, browser type, operating system, and access timestamp) necessary to deliver requested web pages and ensure operational security. These technical logs are stored for up to 7 days and then automatically deleted.
Browser local storage
For teachers using ClassHelper without an account, lesson plans, widget placements, timer presets, and class rosters are saved strictly within your browser's local storage (IndexedDB / localStorage) on your physical device. This data never touches our server and remains completely private to you.
Hosting and processors
We partner exclusively with vetted infrastructure providers bound by strict data processing agreements:
| Provider & location | Purpose & scope | Data categories | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| IONOS SE, Frankfurt am Main, Germany | Hosting of the web platform and whiteboard application; server hosting and infrastructure logs | IP address, timestamp, request URL, user agent; for registered accounts: synchronized boards and rosters | Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR legitimate interests, no transfer to insecure third countries |
| Stripe Payments Europe, Dublin, Ireland | Payment processing for individual optional Premium subscriptions | Payment method details, billing contact, invoice records; zero student or lesson information | Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR performance of contractual billing obligations |
Payment processing disclosure
We use Stripe Payments Europe (Dublin, Ireland) to process payments. Only billing data goes there, never student or lesson data.
Student data protection
ClassHelper is intentionally built to minimize data collection in classroom settings. Student names entered into tools like the Random Name Picker or Group Generator are stored locally in the educator's browser session. We do not build student profiles, and we never collect student email addresses, grades, or biometric identifiers.
For schools and districts
For institutional deployments, schools act as data controllers while ClassHelper operates as a data processor. We provide a comprehensive Data Processing Agreement (DPA) compliant with Art. 28 GDPR. School privacy coordinators can request this agreement directly via our contact page or our dedicated ClassHelper for Schools overview.
Legal basis of processing
We process personal data pursuant to Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for contract fulfillment and account services, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for legitimate interests in server security and technical integrity, and Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR for statutory tax and accounting retention requirements.
Your data rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you possess rights to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection (Art. 21). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, simply email our team at [email protected].
Amendments and version
We may update this policy periodically to reflect evolving legal requirements or platform updates. The current version is 1.1, updated on October 2, 2026.
