Do You Need an Account
No, and you do not need one to start teaching. There is no mandatory registration, no confirmation email to click, and no personal data requested before you can use the whiteboard.
Teaching Immediately Without an Account
- Open
classhelper.appin any modern web browser on your classroom computer. - Click Open Whiteboard in the top navigation bar.
- An empty digital canvas opens instantly with all 35 classroom tools ready.
- Add tools, customize layouts, and teach. Your work is saved automatically to local browser storage on that computer.
- When you return tomorrow using the same browser, your boards and rosters remain ready.
See our guide on Displaying on the Projector for setup advice. For whole faculties, our School Volume Licensing provides managed accounts with cross-device sync.
What is Configured in the Account Section
Even without a login, the Account menu in the sidebar provides local device preferences:
- Profile Preferences: Select your school grade band and region to customize automatic template recommendations. This information never leaves your browser.
- Display Theme: Switch between light mode (ideal for bright classrooms) and dark mode (easier on eyes in dimmed projector rooms).
- Data Management: View saved lesson counts, export an offline JSON backup, or clear stored items.
None of these settings are sent to external servers in the free tier. Review What Data is Stored for complete storage details.
Understanding Device-Bound Storage
Teaching without an account offers total privacy, but requires awareness of how browser storage works:
- Single-Device Access: Materials prepared on your classroom computer remain on that specific machine; they do not appear automatically on your home laptop.
- Backup Regularly: Use Export all data as file under Account settings to save your lesson plans to a USB drive or cloud drive.
- Avoid Private Windows: Do not plan lessons in Incognito or Private tabs, as browsers delete temporary storage upon closing.
- Browser Cleaning: Be mindful if classroom workstations have automated tools that wipe browser cache every night.
Educators who want automated cross-device syncing can explore Subscribing to Premium, which introduces encrypted cloud backups on servers in Germany.
Summary
You never need an account to use ClassHelper. All 35 tools, templates, and lesson folders run entirely in your local browser for free. Cloud syncing is available with Premium when cross-device access is needed.
