Whiteboard Keyboard Shortcuts

Updated in September 2026 Applies to Windows, macOS

During classroom instruction, quick keyboard shortcuts keep lessons moving smoothly. Control widgets, toggle fullscreen, and switch slides without searching through toolbar menus.

Viewing the Keyboard Shortcut Cheat Sheet

The complete list of shortcuts is built directly into the whiteboard and adapts to your operating system (showing Cmd on macOS and Ctrl on Windows):

  1. Press K on your keyboard whenever no text input box is active.
  2. A clean modal opens displaying shortcuts categorized into General, Drawing, Selected Widget, and Text.
  3. Use the toggle at the top to disable keyboard shortcuts if you prefer mouse-only operation.
  4. Press Esc or K to close the reference guide.

Essential Shortcuts for Daily Teaching

These six shortcuts are used in almost every classroom lesson:

  1. 1 blurs the whiteboard instantly—ideal when you need students to look up or when setting up an exercise out of view.
  2. 2 plays the attention chime, an ascending three-tone bell that signals quiet transitions.
  3. F toggles fullscreen display mode on and off.
  4. B hides or reveals the bottom widget toolbar for a distraction-free screen.
  5. ← and → switch between lesson slides when no widget is selected.
  6. Ctrl + Enter (or Cmd + Enter) creates a new blank lesson slide.

Standard editing commands apply: Ctrl + Z to undo, Ctrl + Shift + Z to redo, and Ctrl + A to select all.

Drawing and Widget Controls

In drawing mode, tools correspond to simple letter keys:

  • M for the standard pen marker
  • H for the translucent highlighter
  • E for the eraser
  • L for straight lines and geometric shapes
  • Esc exits drawing mode

When a widget card is selected on the whiteboard:

  • Delete or Backspace removes it
  • S opens widget settings
  • Shift + D duplicates the widget
  • Shift + P pins the widget across all lesson slides
  • Shift + L locks widget position to prevent accidental movement
  • Arrow keys nudge the widget by 5 pixels, or 20 pixels with Shift

Summary

Press K to open the shortcut cheat sheet. Memorize 1 for blur, 2 for the attention chime, F for fullscreen, and B to hide toolbars. Shortcuts only activate when text inputs are unfocused.
