When an Image Fails to Load

Updated in September 2026 Applies to Chrome, Firefox, Safari, iPad

You want to display student artwork, a diagram, or a worksheet on the digital whiteboard, but the image fails to appear. In most cases, this issue is caused by an unsupported file format, an oversized file, or exhausted browser storage.

Checking File Format and Upload Methods

ClassHelper accepts standard web image formats. Unsupported file types are ignored to maintain whiteboard stability:

  1. Verify the file extension: JPG, PNG, WebP, SVG, and GIF files are fully supported.
  2. Use the dedicated tool: Open the Image Tool from the toolbar and select Choose Image.
  3. Drag and drop: Alternatively, drag image files directly onto the canvas or paste from your clipboard with Ctrl + V (or Cmd + V on macOS).
  4. Avoid active text fields: Ensure no input box is currently selected when pasting; otherwise, the image text path may land inside a textbox instead of on the whiteboard canvas. Keyboard commands are listed in Whiteboard Shortcuts.

If you are displaying a multipage worksheet, use the dedicated PDF tool instead of the image tool. PDF files up to 50 MB can be imported directly for classroom presentation.

Clearing Browser Storage When Memory is Full

Images and custom backgrounds are stored locally in your browser memory on your device. If device storage is full, the browser prevents new files from being cached:

  1. Open Backgrounds in the toolbar to view your saved image library.
  2. Select outdated photos or graphics you no longer need and delete them.
  3. Empty deleted lesson collections from your trash in the lesson plans manager.
  4. Refresh the page and try placing your image again.

Further Troubleshooting Steps

If your image still does not appear, check these two common causes:

  1. Private or Incognito Windows: Private browsing sessions enforce strict storage quotas and discard cached files upon closing. Open ClassHelper in a regular browser window.
  2. Corrupted File or Unusual Color Profile: Some smartphone camera files use proprietary RAW formats. Open the photo in your computer photo viewer and re-export it as a standard JPG or PNG.
  3. On classroom iPads, review the recommendations in iPad Troubleshooting.

Privacy note: When saving images to the canvas, ClassHelper re-encodes photos to strip sensitive camera metadata, including GPS location tags. This ensures student privacy when projecting class photos. If an issue persists, reach out via our Contact Page.

Summary

Verify that your file is a standard JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF and insert it via the Image tool or drag-and-drop. For PDF worksheets up to 50 MB, use the PDF tool. If memory is exhausted, delete unused backgrounds in your settings.
