Delete and Clean Up Data
At the end of an academic school year or when handing in a shared classroom laptop, you may want to clean up stored teaching materials. ClassHelper provides clear separation between everyday organization and permanent data deletion.
Deleting an Individual Lesson Collection
To prevent accidental deletions during live instruction, removing a lesson plan moves it to a temporary trash bin first:
- Open Lesson Collections from the toolbar menu.
- Click the three dots on the lesson card and select Delete. The board moves to the trash bin.
- The trash bin is located directly below your active lesson lists. Click Restore to retrieve any lesson plan immediately.
- Boards remain in the trash for 30 days before being automatically purged, or you can select Empty Trash to delete them immediately.
Archiving Class Rosters and Deleting Backgrounds
Student rosters and uploaded image backgrounds follow distinct cleanup paths because they may be referenced across multiple lessons:
- Rosters: For classes you may teach again next semester, select Move to Archive rather than deleting them. Archived rosters stay organized by academic year.
- If you wish to discard a roster completely, open the class overview, click Delete, and confirm the prompt.
- Custom Backgrounds: Manage uploaded graphics under Backgrounds in the toolbar. You can select multiple images and remove them in one action.
- Before deleting an image, the confirmation dialogue indicates which lesson collections currently use that background graphic.
Review our guide on Student Data Privacy to see how rosters are structured.
Deleting Everything in One Step
To reset your classroom device completely, navigate to Account and open the Data Management section:
- Select Export all data as file first if you wish to keep an offline backup of your work.
- Click Delete All Data.
- Review the confirmation summary: it displays the exact count of lesson collections, student rosters, custom backgrounds, and trash items that will be cleared.
- Confirm by clicking Yes, delete everything. This action is irreversible.
If you are returning a school-issued device to your district IT department, also clear the browser site data for classhelper.app to remove locally cached preferences. Technical hosting details are outlined in Server Location.
Summary
Deleted lesson collections remain in the trash bin for 30 days before permanent deletion. Rosters can be archived by school year, and Delete All Data clears all local browser memory instantly after confirming.
